Photo Hunt - Covered

I decided to go with something a little different, and perhaps a little less obvious for our photo hunt theme this week.

I should explain that I have no idea who this bride is. I bought her wedding portrait at an estate sale for $5.00 bux a couple of years ago. The sale was held in the home of a lady who had passed on in her early 90s and did not have any close relatives. When I inquired about the photo the only information the sellers had is that it probably was either the parents or grandparents of the deceased, and that they most likely were Irish.

Here is a scan of the complete version. Covered in her wedding veil, she does not appear to be a very happy bride. Something about her or them called out to me, and that is why I bought the photo. I have a collection of random photos that I've picked up here, and there, and all for some reason just had to come home with me. Hope that makes sense. Happy photo hunting!

Next week the theme is: Addiction

Great photo for covered. It's cool that you collect old photos like this. Their body language isn't very romantic is it?

Happy weekend!

I see what you mean about them not looking too happy. Still I suppose in those days photos were more rigidly ppoed and look rather stiff to us... Still the eyes don't radiate happiness

I can't help but feel a little sad when I see old family photos for sale. But it does seem that many who buy them do appreciate them -- this way, at least some vestige of the deceased lives on.

The photo should be in a museum. The elders would consider it inauspicious to keep photos of dead strangers. :P

And I thought I was the only one who rescued old photos of people I don't know.. ha ha I don't have old photos of my family... I told everyone I was going to buy some and name them great-aunt so and so ... no one would know the difference. Love your "covered" bride. Great Photo!

I'm currently reading a book called "A History of Marriage" ... most brides weren't happy or will back then.

That is an unusual take but I have to say that you definitely have this theme COVERED.

That makes perfect sense to me. Sometimes there are items that just 'speak' to me. I do wonder what she was thinking. I also like your unique interpretation of covered.

Perhaps it was an arranged marriage and not one of love so why should she be smiling? I wonder why the elderly person would have a photo fo someone else's wedding tho and what makes the people who had the estate sale think it wasn't the lady in her bridal gown. . .
